A Word from Finance
Hello—
Welcome to Finance’s virtual Black History Month Event!
In prior years, of course, we’d be getting together in-person here in Finance to learn more about Black history. And while that’s not possible this year, this website offers a wonderful variety of helpful and educational ways to explore and learn more about the long and incredibly impressive history of Black Americans.
This website includes poetry readings, a book list, videos, a timeline, and much more! You can, for example, review posters on well-known and important Black figures like U.S. Representative and civil rights leader John Lewis and lesser-known—but just as impressive—figures like Bessie Coleman, the first African American and the first Native American female pilot.
I want to thank the members of the Finance DEI Team for their work on this website as well as their ongoing—and outstanding—efforts to ensure that we have a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace throughout our organization. Their work is making a positive—and noticeable—difference in Finance every day! The members of the Finance DEI Team are Sheryl Bourlier, Lori Hogan, Sam Sisk, Sue Thanedar, and William Sams.
And special thanks to Aliyah Mitchell for her incredible work in making this website a reality, including design, photography, and videography.
I hope you enjoy your visit and encourage you to come back to this website in the coming days to explore everything that it offers on Black history. Thanks for stopping by!
